Resurrection

Then a few Jewish scholars and Pharisees spoke up and said, Teacher, why dont you perform a miraculous sign for us.Jesus replied, Only evil people who are unfaithful to God would demand a sign. There will be no sign given to you except the sign of the prophet Jonah. For as Jonah was in the belly of the huge sea creature for three days and three nights, so the Son of Man will be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights.

What a memorable sign it was that Jesus gave to the worlddefeating death and sin, and rising again on the third day. The image of the whale, bursting forth out of the deep, portrays this victory. Although the story of Jonah is in some ways disappointing, God still saved him and empowered him to fulfil his task of prophesying to Nineveh. The three days and three nights he spent in the belly of the huge sea creature were Jonahs turning point; God gave him a second chance at his destiny. So it is with us. O death, where is your victory...where is your sting (1 Corinthians 15:55)? When Jesus rose from the grave, we rose with Him. He gave us a second chance at our life here on earth, but He also ensured our eternal destiny with Him. We are seated with Him in heaven (Ephesians 2:6) and will be forevermore.
