"Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?"Jesus said, "Have the people sit down." There was plenty of grass in that place, and they sat down (about five thousand men were there). Jesus then took the loaves, gave thanks, and distributed to those who were seated as much as they wanted. He did the same with the fish. When they had all had enough to eat, he said to his disciples, "Gather the pieces that are left over. Let nothing be wasted." So they gathered them and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves left over by those who had eaten.
John 6:9-13 (NIV)
Imagine if the boy had hidden his bread and fish, if he had thought to himself, This is nothing. The Lord knew we needed the counsel: Do not despise the day of small beginnings (Zechariah 4:10), because He is able to see both the acorn and the fully grown oak tree. We so easily fail to recognize the seeds scattered throughout our lives, but God knows them because they are gifts from Him. He is a master investor. When God encountered Moses through the burning bush, He had already given Moses everything he needed to complete his assignment. Yet Moses shrinks back from the call and asks God, "What if they do not believe me or listen to me and say, 'The Lord did not appear to you'?"
Then the Lord said to him, "What is that in your hand?"
"A staff", he replied (Exodus 4:1-2 NIV).
Hold your hands before the Lord and ask him, what have you put in my hands? The bread and fish were like seeds. Jesus held them before God, gave thanks, and a miracle occurred. He wants to multiply what is in your hands. Give thanks and let Him.
