But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.

Isaiah 53:5 (NIV)

There are many theories to explain the purpose of the zebras stripes. Two such reasons are that they help to repel insects and they reduce body temperature. When air surrounds a zebra (and since black absorbs more heat than white), the air currents are stronger and faster over the black stripes and slower over the white. At the meeting point of these two opposing airflows, little eddies of air are formed, which then cool the zebra's skin. The powerful passage from Isaiah is also translated as by his stripes we are healed. When I look at the zebras stripes, I am reminded of Jesus stripes, his wounds that paid for my perfect health. Healing and wholeness are our portion as children of God. His victory on the cross has clothed us with the armor of God. We stand victorious. The breastplate of righteousness covers our hearts and protects our identity as holy before him (Ephesians 6 and Colossians 1:22).
